A particularly impressive sample of Finnish contemporary art from the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation collection. In 2017 the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation will celebrate its 75th anniversary, the Rovaniemi Art Museum its 30th anniversary and Finland will be 100 years old – real celebration!

Rovaniemi Art Museum celebrates its 30 year journey with an exhibition from the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation collection. The exhibition is a gorgeous, appropriate picture of the Finnish contemporary art in the 2000’s. Throughout the times, forest has been an important place for relaxing and calming down for Finns, and an inexhaustible source for art. Man, space, line and color are themes in focus, too. The exhibition will culminate to dignify the hundred-year-old Finland with graceful blue and white themes.

After 75 years of working for the benefit of Finnish culture, the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation celebrates its anniversary. The co-operation between the Rovaniemi Art Museum and the Foundation started in 1986, when the art museum was founded in Rovaniemi to house the collection of 500 art works donated by the Foundation. The growing collection got more room as the enlargement of the museum was finished in May, 2011. The old post bus depot got the name Korundi after a hard jewel, which is also called the Lappish Star. Korundi House is also home for the Lapland Chamber Orchestra.

Today the art collection consists of more than 3000 art works and it is one of the most qualified collections of contemporary art in Finland. The art collection has followed the development of Finnish art from the 1940’s until today and forward. Trends in art and new methods can be seen in the collection.
